Violence Interrupters
Definition
Trained community members – often with lived experience of violence or incarceration – who mediate conflicts, interrupt retaliation cycles, and connect at-risk individuals to services before violence occurs.
Why This Matters for Louisville
These credible messengers reach people police cannot, a key component of my community safety strategy. Results from similar programs in other cities have been mixed, so I will measure ours and publish the results.
