Why I’m Running for Mayor: A Message from Dave Biggers

Louisville, I need to talk to you.

I was born here. Raised here. Middletown, St. Matthews, Hikes Point – these are my neighborhoods. My grandmother raised me to understand that community is not just where you live, but how you show up for each other.

For too long, Ive watched our city struggle with problems that other cities have solved. Crime that feels out of control. Mental health crises with nowhere to turn. Young people with no safe places after school and no summer jobs. Families priced out of neighborhoods their grandparents built.

We Can Do Better

This is not a campaign about promises. This is a campaign about plans.

Ive spent months studying what works in cities like ours. Mini police substations that bring officers back to neighborhoods – not driving through, but stationed there, knowing the people, preventing problems before they start. Community wellness centers that catch mental health crises before they become 911 calls. Youth programs that keep kids safe, employed, and hopeful.

And heres the thing that separates this campaign from every politician who comes through with big ideas: I can show you exactly how to pay for it.

$1.2 Billion. Same Budget. Better Priorities.

Louisville Metro already spends $1.2 billion every year. The question is not whether we have the money – its whether were spending it on things that actually work.

My plan doesnt raise taxes. It reallocates resources to evidence-based programs that prevent problems instead of just reacting to them. Wellness centers that return $2-3 for every dollar invested. Mini substations proven to reduce crime 20-30%. Youth programs that cut juvenile crime rates in half.

This Campaign is Different

Im not a career politician. I dont have wealthy donors calling the shots. What I have is a detailed plan, a lifetime of Louisville experience, and a deep belief that our city deserves better than what weve been getting.

Ive published every policy, every budget number, every research citation on this website. No hidden agendas. No vague promises. Just plans you can read, question, and hold me accountable to.

Thats what government that listens and responds looks like.

Louisville, lets build something better together.
