Understanding Louisville’s $1.2 Billion Budget: Where Your Tax Dollars Should Go

Louisville Metro’s annual budget exceeds $1.2 billion. That’s your money – and you deserve to know exactly how it’s being spent and how it could be spent better.

Current Budget Reality

The 2025-2026 Louisville Metro budget allocates funds across dozens of departments. The largest chunks go to:

  • Public Safety (LMPD, Fire, EMS) – The largest single allocation
  • Public Works – Roads, infrastructure, sanitation
  • Health and Community Services – Social programs, health department
  • Economic Development – Business incentives, job creation programs

My $81M Budget Enhancement Plan

Within the existing budget framework, I’ve identified $81 million in strategic investments that will transform Louisville:

Budget Breakdown

  • $77.4M – Public Safety (Mini Substations, Community Policing)
  • $185M – Community Programs (Wellness Centers, Youth Services)
  • $75M – Environmental Justice (Air Quality, Green Infrastructure)
  • $25M – Affordable Housing Expansion

Transparency Is Non-Negotiable

Every dollar of city spending should be trackable by any resident. That’s why my administration will:

  • Launch a real-time budget dashboard at Budget.Louisville.gov
  • Publish quarterly spending reports in plain language
  • Hold public budget hearings in every council district
  • Implement $15M in participatory budgeting – letting YOU decide how funds are spent
