Ordinance
Definition
A local law passed by Metro Council and signed by the mayor (or passed over mayoral veto). Ordinances cover everything from zoning rules to noise regulations to the city budget. Unlike state laws called ‘statutes,’ ordinances only apply within Louisville Metro’s boundaries. Citizens can propose ordinances through their council member or by testifying at committee meetings.
