Jefferson County Attorney

Definition

An independently elected official (not appointed by the mayor) who serves as legal advisor to Louisville Metro Government and prosecutes misdemeanor crimes and code violations in district court. The County Attorney’s office handles about 30,000 cases annually including DUIs, shoplifting, code enforcement, and animal control violations. Don’t confuse with the Commonwealth’s Attorney who prosecutes felonies.
