Co-Responder Program

Definition

A model pairing police officers with mental health clinicians or social workers to respond together to mental health, substance abuse, and homelessness calls. The clinician provides assessment and service connection while the officer ensures safety. Co-responder programs reduce arrests, hospitalization, and use of force on vulnerable populations while connecting people to long-term help. This is more effective than police-only or clinician-only responses.
