Pre-K Expansion
Definition
Increasing access to quality preschool programs for 3- and 4-year-old children, particularly in low-income neighborhoods. Research shows pre-K improves lifetime outcomes.
Louisville Context
Many Louisville 4-year-olds do not have access to quality pre-K programs, and access is uneven across neighborhoods. Research links pre-K to better odds of graduating high school and going to college, and to higher earnings later in life.
Why It Matters
Early childhood education is the highest-return public investment possible. Yet too many Louisville kids are left without access. Expanding pre-K reduces achievement gaps, improves lifetime outcomes, and pays for itself many times over.
My Proposal
Partner with JCPS to expand universal pre-K access, prioritizing underserved neighborhoods. Metro government provides facilities and wrap-around services (nutrition, transportation) while JCPS handles instruction.
