Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD)

The law enforcement agency serving Louisville Metro with sworn officers and civilian employees. LMPD’s adopted FY2026-27 budget is about $268 million, including $259 million from the general fund, about 28% of general fund revenue (Louisville Metro adopted budget FY2026-27, Ordinance O-175-26, Exhibit A). The police chief is appointed by the mayor and serves at the mayor’s pleasure, making mayoral elections critical for police leadership direction and reform efforts.
